Areas of focus

I received my Master of Arts in Counseling with a concentration in marriage, couples, and family as well as a certification in play therapy from Sam Houston State University. I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Texas A&M University. I am Level 2 certified in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and am supervised by Marion Marold Vickerman LMFT-S.

I was a preschool teacher for seven years, which led to my decision to become a play therapist and family therapist seeing how much of a need there was for the kids in my class room. My grandmother owned the biggest daycare in Liberty for 40+ years, so I guess caring for kids runs in my family.

Much of my experience has been working with children, adolescents, and their families. As a certified play therapist, I will see children as young as three years old.

My approach

My person-centered therapy approach is guided by the principles of narrative therapy as well as child centered play therapy. My work with couples is based upon the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy integrating research-based interventions. My treatment approach is unique for each client as we work together to reach their goals.

Who I am out of the office

Outside the office, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I love reading and traveling and dream of visiting London again – my favorite vacation spot so far. I am a high school and college football fan. I love being active and to dance; I started ballet at age two, was on my high school dance team, danced with a company in college, and still take a few dance classes now. I also like to crochet; I make blankets and scarves and decorative items like pumpkins and Christmas tree garland. I’m getting married in June so I will be changing my last name soon to Esquivel.

Life is a process.

“The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination.” – Carl Rogers

We can work together to move in the direction of your goals.
